Chief executive Jez Moxey has insisted Premier League survival is within Wolves' grasp after declaring boss Mick McCarthy is the ideal man for a survival battle.

Wolves host Blackburn in a winner-takes-all showdown at a sold-out Molineux on Sunday knowing they will clinch their Premier League place if they win.

And Moxey said: "We have one more game we need to win. We could lose and still stay up but we all know it's in our grasp.

"That's really all our lads are concentrating on - one more win to achieve the objective of this year."

Wolves are out of the bottom three for only the third week since the start of October.

But Moxey believes McCarthy, who celebrates five years in the job this summer, is the ideal man to keep the players focused.

He said: "The whole club is calm - it's stable. We understand what faces us - we face adversity in the same way we face victories - not getting too excited and not getting too depressed when things don't go our way.

"Mick McCarthy exemplifies that perfectly and that gives our players the confidence to know we're not like some clubs, where people talk about such as firing their managers if they haven't done very well.

"Calm, stable, sensible, sustainable management is what we want.

"Mick exemplifies that extremely well; he's done a great job and creates confidence in the team to keep believing in themselves even though we've been in the bottom three for a lot of the season.

"We never say die and often come up trumps when we need to.

"Look at some of our victories - Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea - we've had remarkable success, and then not such great success against the teams in the mix with us."

Blackpool go to Manchester United on a day when United receive the Premier League trophy.

But Moxey is confident United will field a strong enough team to want to keep their season-long unbeaten record at Old Trafford.

He said: "I'm sure they will want to win that game."

Despite Wolves' struggles this season, Moxey insisted Wolves had progressed.

He said: "The second season is actually more difficult than the first.

"Hopefully if we can stay in, it gets a little easier but let's concentrate on Blackburn.

"We have two more points than last year, therefore we're improving."
