Matt Jarvis is Mick's player of the year
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today declared Matt Jarvis his choice of Player of the Year as consolation for axeing him.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today declared Matt Jarvis his choice of Player of the Year as consolation for axing him.
Jarvis was rested for the Black Country derby win over Albion last Sunday as Stephen Hunt produced a man of the match performance in his place.
That has left Jarvis sweating on his chances of a recall for Saturday lunch-time's clash at Sunderland, despite being the overwhelming choice for Player of the Year after impressing in a season which earned him full England recognition.
But McCarthy recognises that it is difficult to produce top performances in every game, especially in a struggling team.
"'Jarvo' has had a great season, he's been fantastic, and more than a contender for Player of the Season," said McCarthy.
"But he's like everyone else — you can't just produce it on the pitch every weekend. He's had a great season, just like Christophe Berra has."
McCarthy insists players such as Jarvis and Berra will have their time again once they are fresh. "They've played a lot of games and it's a tough old league," said the boss. "Everybody's time will come again."
