Stephen Hunt has cheered Wolves fans up by insisting he has as much as 20 per cent more of his game to come.

The £3million winger finally made his long-anticipated debut at Chelsea in Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Wolves suffered their eighth Premier League game without a win, but Hunt's half-time introduction for Jelle van Damme proved a highlight as the Ireland international went close to scoring with a spectacular diving header blocked on the line by Michael Essien.

And Hunt, who is set for more action in tomorrow's Carling Cup fourth-round tie at Manchester United, has vowed to get better.

He said: "I'm probably about 80 to 85 per cent in terms of where I want to be.

"I need to get sharper - I've got to be - and, once the few niggles I've had go away, I'm sure I will be.

"I just need to start getting my match minutes under my belt then I can get back to where I was."

The 29-year-old revealed he nearly didn't make Saturday's game.

He said: "I had a knock on my back during the week and I was 'touch and go' for Saturday.

"It was beneficial for me to get 45 minutes instead of 20 - at least I got a decent blow-out.

"I felt a bit rusty but I just tried to be positive."

Hunt has told his team-mates to treat every game as if it's one against the big boys.

He said: "It's more important we keep our level of performance as if we're playing the big teams all the time.

"If we do, then hopefully we can crack on. We don't look like a beaten team, but the results say we are. It's horrible losing, so hopefully we can go on a run.

"I've joined Wolves to win games and move the club forward. First that means staying in the Premier League again.

"It's vital we stay up but we are looking to build."

Hunt refused to comment on the abuse he received from Chelsea fans who remembered his clash with goalkeeper Petr Cech in October 2006.
