Marcus Hahnemann was today confirmed as Wolves' No.1 - barely a month after the club handed Wayne Hennessey a five-year contract.

Hahnemann was expected to start the season against Stoke this Saturday, but boss Mick McCarthy's decision to 'promote' the USA World Cup reserve from his lucky 13 to the number one jersey in the squad numbers released today is a clear statement to his goalkeeping hierachy.

A free transfer from Reading a year ago, Hahnemann proved immovable after winning his place at the end of November.

"Marcus left us as the No.1 at the end of last season and he's come back as the No.1," said McCarthy.

"It's up to Wayne Hennessey and Carl Ikeme to change my mind and change the dynamic - because that's what Marcus did.

"He got himself fitter, better prepared and got into the team and changed the dynamic of the whole goalkeeping hierarchy here.

"At the start of last season, Wayne was my number one and I believed in him - I still do because he can still be a terrific keeper for us.

"But he's 23 and sometimes I ask people, did you make all the right decisions at that age?

"And generally, the answer is no."

Club record £7m signing Steven Fletcher has taken Andy Keogh's number 10 shirt for the new season. Keogh will wear 19.

Summer signings, Jelle van Damme is number two, Stephen Hunt takes the number 12 shirt and Steven Mouyokolo 22.
