Wallace sustained the injury 20 minutes from the end of Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Millwall and will now undergo a period of rehabilitation as he looks to be ready for the Championship run-in as the Baggies chase a play-off place.
The 30-year-old winger has experienced a largely inconsistent campaign but had performed well at The Den having been brought back into the line-up by boss Tony Mowbray. Yet he is now facing a spell on the sidelines.
An Albion statement explained: “Jed will now enter a period of rehabilitation and will target a return to action for the Baggies’ run-in.
“Everyone at the club wishes Jed a speedy recovery.”
Mowbray has made extensive changes to his Albion team for each match since returning to The Hawthorns last month but while the loss of Wallace will be a disappointment, there will also be relief the injury is not more serious.
Addressing it after the match on Saturday, Mowbray said: "I think his calf tightened up a little," Mowbray said. "He's an experienced pro, he knew if he carried on it was probably going to get worse and worse. We'll assess him."
Mowbray welcomed back Semi Ajayi from long-term injury for the match against Millwall, where striker Daryl Dike also made his first start in more than a year.
The Baggies, who sit sixth in the Championship, are next in action on Saturday when they host Oxford United.
