The Baggies sold goalkeeper Alex Palmer to Ipswich on deadline day for a fee which could rise to £5million and pulled off a coup by signing striker Adam Armstrong from Southampton on a loan deal which was finally confirmed 14 hours after Monday's 11pm deadline.

The club also brought in promising youngster Isaac Price in a £2.5m deal from Standard Liege before adding teenage Tottenham striker Will Lankshear until the end of the season.

And Nestor believes the club have improved in terms of squad strength and age profile as well as in terms of profit and sustainability rules.

Nestor said: "The aim of any transfer window is to finish stronger than you start it and thanks to the in-depth research and planning that has been conducted during the months leading up to January, we feel confident that we have achieved this.

"We have obviously had additional challenges to overcome even before the window opened, particularly the enforced change in head coach, however, our transfer strategy had been clear since this last summer and we have also been in a good position to address unexpected needs due to injury.
