The 25-year-old saw his existing deal at The Hawthorns expire at the end of the current season but he has signed a new terms until 2028.

Molumby was a contract priority for the club’s hierarchy given his age, with peak years ahead, and his importance to the first team fold.

The Republic of Ireland international has clocked up 125 appearances and netted seven times for the Baggies.

Molumby said: “I’ve been at the club since 2021 and it’s a place where I feel really happy.

“There are so many good people here who I love being around every single day and I’m delighted to be extending my contract.

“I’ve been pleased with my performances this season, but everyone knows I want to get even better, and I believe I’m on the right track to doing that here at Albion.

“We all want to be successful this season and I’m completely focused on giving everything I’ve got every week to help us achieve what we want to achieve.”

Molumby joined Albion in 2021, initially on loan, before a £900,000 move in 2022, where he signed a three-year deal.

He spent most of the period since as a key player for former boss Carlos Corberan in Albion’s midfield and is a fan favourite with relentless energy levels and work rate.

Corberan said shortly before his exit for Valencia that Molumby’s future was one Albion needed to address.

The former Brighton youngster recently gave one of his best performances for the club in the 2-2 draw at Sheffield United on December 29.

Molumby follows on from right-back Darnell Furlong agreeing a new contract a few months ago as the Baggies plan to tie down those they see having important futures at The Hawthorns.

It is thought Furlong and Molumby were clear priorities from those out of contract, with others whose deals expire including John Swift, Semi Ajayi and Grady Diangana.

Albion sporting director Andrew Nestor said: "Jayson’s play and commitment on the pitch has been important to the team and we are delighted to have agreed this new contract with him.

"We continue to move forward with our squad planning strategy that we began implementing in the summer.

“Nothing has changed in that respect, and we want to ensure players like Jayson know they are a focal part of those plans. This new contract is recognition of the contribution he is making to the team."
