The Baggies boss, who has been subject of speculation in recent months from a number of clubs, was strongly linked with the vacant role at his hometown of Valencia on Monday.

The speculation only intensified with Spanish media reporting late on Monday evening that Valencia were willing to pay his buyout clause, believed to be around £2.5m.

On Tuesday morning, Albion received a big from the Spanish strugglers and later in the day Corberan's departure was confirmed.

It brings to an end two largely successful years at The Hawthorns for the former Huddersfield boss, who took Albion from second bottom to the brink of promotion to the Premier League under the backdrop of financial restrictions.

Boaz Myhill, Chris Brunt and Damia Abella will take first team duties in the interim.
