When he arrived at The Hawthorns back in the summer, not many would have predicted the Norwegian defender would have gone on to be by far and away their biggest addition of the window.

But he has - by some distance.

His arrival could have been filed in the underwhelming category for some, given he came in as an unknown. However, his arrival for £500,000 from IF Brommapokjarna was an indication that Albion were going back to old, successful methods of recruiting young talent from Europe.

Whether it would work remained be seen. But it has taken just 15 games for the supporters to see that the club may just have regained that touch in this department.

Heggem's impressive and commanding displays would have been commendable had he come into the club and slotted into his natural, central defensive position.

But what makes his impact more impressive is that for the majority of this season, up until the recent draw with Cardiff City, he has had to fill in at left back.
