Lewis Cox analysis: West Brom's Carlos Corberan continues to work his magic

Albion’s run of form has to go down as pretty exceptional, as does the job Carlos Corberan is doing.

A couple of weeks ago, as we returned from an international break with five games before another, Albion’s fixtures were assessed and the general conclusion was a return of seven to nine points from a possible 15 would keep the team well-placed among the Championship’s play-off hunters.

Well, four games down with one to go, Corberan’s troops have amassed 10 from a possible 12 – responding incredibly from a stalemate at home to Plymouth to start – to put themselves right up there with the division’s big-hitters.

Next weekend’s trip to Southampton sees fourth host fifth. It’s too early to look at the league table too seriously, but 15 games is a good yardstick – and Albion have shown their ambitions and what they are capable of.

Saturday’s 3-1 victory over an impressive and fancied Hull side, who have claimed some scalps already this term, was a superb result.

It wasn’t smooth-sailing and by no means perfect – Hull were the better side for the first 45 minutes and 1-1 was the least they deserved at half-time – but Corberan’s side responded extremely well after the interval and their winning habit shone through again.

Corberan and his players have quite clearly developed a togetherness and, more importantly, a way to win games. A way to be compact and they are beginning to show a more ruthless touch in the final third. It is a useful recipe.
