West Brom playing it cautious with loan star Jeremy Sarmiento
Albion are managing the load on new recruit Jeremy Sarmiento with a mind to involve him in Saturday’s Championship curtain-raiser at Blackburn.
Versatile forward Sarmiento, 21, checked in on loan from Brighton as Albion’s belated first signing of the summer last week.
But the Ecuador international was not involved as Carlos Corberan’s men finished their pre-season schedule with a defeat at Bolton on Saturday as he takes the next steps in his recovery from an injury sustained towards the end of last season.
Sarmiento fractured a metatarsal bone in his foot during international duty for his nation in Australia in late March. He only rejoined team training with the Seagulls a week before sealing his loan move to The Hawthorns and was not involved in Brighton’s trip to the US.
Albion and Corberan, thus, have been studious to plot a specific training regime for the former Charlton and Benfica youngster so to not thrust him into full-tempo action with team-mates who have been back in full training for well over a month.
