The Baggies travel to take on Newcastle tomorrow looking for a win that will take them out the bottom three.

Albion have won just once in 11 Premier League outings. But they have been on the wrong end of a number of controversial refereeing decisions that have arguably cost them points.

The latest of those arrived last weekend when Matheus Pereira was sent off against Crystal Palace.

Bilic’s men slumped to a 5-1 loss following the dismissal. But despite the heavy defeat, the boss still received support from the majority of Albion’s fans on social media.

“I feel a connection with the fans,” Bilic said. “But I have a job to do and I’m totally focused on winning games.

“It’s nice to know the fans and media are recognising the situation. But we have to start picking up points and stop doing those things that are costly – especially for us as newcomers to the league.

“We need everything in the game to have a good chance. That includes having the right number of players on the pitch. It also includes not making mistakes.

“If we have that then in every game we will be in a position to get a positive result.

“We have shown that really well recently.”

Albion head to Newcastle tomorrow with the Magpies having been hit heavily by COVID-19.

It has been reported Steve Bruce could be without as many as 15 players after they contracted the virus.

Bilic, though, says his players haven’t expressed any concerns about playing the game and are eager to see it go ahead.

“None of the guys are knocking on my door and saying they are worried because Newcastle have a number of cases,” the boss continued.

“First of all, this is serious football and the Premier League would not allow any of those things to happen.

“They wouldn’t risk the health of the players.

“Newcastle wouldn’t do it.

“On the contrary, if the boys knock on my door it’s because they want to play.

“We haven’t asked for any assurances about playing Newcastle.

“It wasn’t us monitoring the situation, it was Newcastle and Premier League.

“They decided that the situation had improved a lot in a positive way.

“The game is on, we have no doubts.”
