West Brom 1 Crystal Palace 5 - Player ratings
See how we rated the West Brom players in their 5-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.
Sam Johnstone
Albion’s goalkeeper has been fantastic this season and Johnstone made a good stop to deny Patrick van Aanholt here. But there was nothing he could do to stop Palace running riot with all their goals impossible to stop.
No chance 6
Darnell Furlong
The wing-back was unfortunate with the own-goal. But he responded well and sent a header crashing against the bar before then setting up Gallagher’s equaliser. Defensively, found it tough up against the outstanding Wilfried Zaha.
Unfortunate 6
Semi Ajayi
The Nigerian played an outstanding pass to find Furlong for Albion’s equaliser. In the first half Ajayi was a commanding presence. But like his team-mates, he looked lost and dejected after the interval.
Overwhelmed 5
Branislav Ivanovic
The former Chelsea man struggled to cope with the pace and trickery of Zaha and Eberechi Eze. Surely should have been awarded a penalty after being clattered by Vicente Guaita just before the interval though.
Poor 4
Kyle Bartley
A disastrous afternoon for the centre-back. Bartley gave away a needless free-kick for Palace’s first goal. He also wasn’t tight enough to Christian Benteke for the third and failed to stop Eze for the fourth.
Error-prone 4
Matt Phillips
Asked to play in an unfamiliar role at left wing-back, Phillips did OK and sent in a couple of dangerous crosses – one of which Furlong clattered against the bar.
Potential 5
Romaine Sawyers
Impressive against both Man United and Sheffield United, Sawyers got another crack at the holding midfield role. But he struggled to impact this game with Palace dominant in the middle of the park.
Anonymous 4
Conor Gallagher
The midfielder netted his second goal in as many games with a fine finish from just inside the box. As always, he got about the pitch excellently and tried to make things happen. Arguably should have had a penalty when bundled to the floor by Gary Cahill.
Classy 7
Matheus Pereira
The more you look at the red card incident, the more it becomes clear the referee got the decision wrong. Pereira was just starting to shine before it arrived. He should, though, have done a lot better for Palace’s first goal, with Zaha brushing him off far too easily.
Controversial red 4
Grady Diangana
Lucky to get the nod up front at the expense of Callum Robinson. Diangana didn’t reward that faith, with the 22-year-old quiet throughout.
Ineffective 4
Karlan Grant
The striker showed some nice touches on the ball, but never really got a sniff at goal.
Quiet 5
Substitutes
Filip Krovinovc (for Diangana) 5, Callum Robinson (for Grant) 5, Dara O’Shea (for Sawyers) 5. Subs not used: Button, Gibbs, Grosicki, Austin.
