Ferguson has been a key figure for Slaven Bilic's side since his arrival at The Hawthorns over the summer - making 19 appearances over the campaign so far.

His current deal expires in July, and despite a new five-year contract being offered to the youngster he has yet to sign, sparking fears that the 19-year-old could depart for free this summer.

Speaking ahead of the game with Middlesbrough, Albion director Luke Dowling has admitted that the club want 'clarity' over his future, so they can act accordingly.

"We will be looking for clarity from Nathan Ferguson and his advisor about whether or not he wants to stay with us." Dowling said.

"All I can say at this stage is that I am confident we can find the terms that would make sense to Nathan at his stage of his career - and that we all believe that his pathway at Albion remains the most advantageous to him."

A number of clubs are likely to consider a move for Ferguson, given his brilliant performances so far this season, and Albion's position is substantially weakened in January in regards to negotiating a suitable fee - with opposing clubs fully aware that he could move exit this summer for a nominal fee.

Should the full-back leave in the summer to a club in the UK, a fee would be negotiated - similar to the case of Morgan Rogers, who left Albion for Manchester City for a multi-million pound fee over the summer.

But should he leave Albion for an overseas club, Fifa rules state that the club would receive less than £300,000 for the starlet, as was the protracted case with Barcelona over the move for another Albion youngster Louie Barry.

The Baggies have already stated that they will consider selling Nathan Ferguson in January if the defender doesn’t put pen-to-paper on a new deal at The Hawthorns.
