West Brom defender Ahmed Hegazi dropped over training ground incident

Ahmed Hegazi was not included in West Brom's match day squad for the draw with Brentford after a training ground incident, Slaven Bilic has revealed.

The Egyptian defender was not included in the squad to face Brentford, with Dara O'Shea preferred to the 28-year-old.

Reports in the national media claim that Albion have rejected a bid worth more than £3m for the defender from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad - a side previously managed by Bilic.

O'Shea was brought into action early in the second half for his Championship debut, after Kyle Bartley suffered an ankle injury during the clash.

Bilic addressed the decision not to include the more experienced defender, after being questioned about the reports.

"It has something to do with that [the reports]," Bilic said.

"Something happened yesterday on the training ground. It is not something I want to share or discuss with the media.

"It’s a little thing, but it was something that was big enough for him to be not in the squad today."

The game ended 1-1, ensuring Albion will stay top of the Championship table over Christmas following Leeds' defeat to Fulham.

Meanwhile, the injury to Bartley could see O'Shea feature for the senior side over the festive period with the Baggies travelling to Barnsley on Boxing Day before taking on Leeds at home on New Years' Day.

Hegazi has barely featured for Albion this season after undergoing ankle surgery over the summer.

The good form of Semi Ajayi and Bartley has heavily limited the Egyptian's opportunities. He's only managed 98 minutes of action so far this season, starting just once.
