Sam Johnstone is eyeing more West Brom clean sheets

Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is pleased to have added another away clean sheet to his tally this season, but says the side need to earn more at home.

The Baggies continued their impressive form on Monday night with a 1-0 win away at Preston.

The winning goal came from a controversial 90th-minute Charlie Austin penalty.

It gave Albion a fifth clean sheet away from home this season and, despite being pleased with that tally, Johnstone has insisted the side need a home clean sheet after failing to register one this season.

“It’s great,” he said.

“You keep a clean sheet and it gives you a base to go on and win the game like we did at Preston.

“I think we just need to start doing it at home a little bit more.

“The lads have worked hard. It’s not just me, it’s a team effort.

“They are knackered, they run for 94 minutes. It was a big result. It is the first time they have lost at home.

“They are a good team. But I think we ground it out. They made it difficult for us, they had chances.

“So when you eventually go on to win the game it’s massive. We’ll take a win whenever it comes.”

Kyle Edwards was accused of diving for the last-minute penalty, but Johnstone was full of praise for goalscorer Austin for keeping his cool and slotting home his second late penalty in three games.

“We have got a lot of top players – Charlie has played at a high level,” he added.

“And he has that confidence to step up in the last minute and put a penalty away.”
