Jake Livermore: West Brom on the right track
Jake Livermore believes Albion have made steady progress in the opening two months of the season.
The Baggies are the only side in the Championship still boasting an unbeaten record with Slaven Bilic’s men having avoided defeat in eight outings.
But despite what, overall, has been an impressive start – they arguably should have more points on the board.
Bilic has previously said he feels his team should have gone on to beat both Millwall and Derby – matches that ended in draws.
But Livermore believes Albion will become more clinical as the season progresses.
“The boys have done really well,” the midfielder said.
“We have got a new team, new management, and new staff.
“And we are getting there, we are getting to where we want to be.
“It takes time to build a squad and a successful team but we are definitely going in the right direction.
“I think in a few of the games we have been unlucky.
“The boys have played some great football in some of the matches but just not got that rub of the green or found cutting that edge to turn one point into three.
“But we have shown some good resilience to come back from falling behind, which is a real positive.
“The boys have got a great togetherness.
“We have had a tough start to the season, really, we have played some good sides already and it’s been a good test for us.
“It’s a good base to build on.”
Meanwhile, QPR striker Jordan Hugill says he and his team-mates are relishing the prospect of facing Albion on Saturday.
The two sides have each picked up 16 points from their opening eight league matches, and both currently lie in the top six in the table.
“They (Albion) are one of the big teams in the league,” Hugill said. “We are looking forward to it because it will be a good test to see where we are at.
“It’s one of the games that you look forward to all season because as soon as the fixtures are out you look for the bigger teams and the ones that have just been relegated.
“We are focused on what we can do. I don’t think we have reached our maximum potential yet and I believe we can give West Brom a good game.”
