Albion also included Ali Al-Habsi, Chris Brunt, Rekeem Harper, Chris Willock, Kyle Edwards and Hal Robson-Kanu in a strong starting XI.

The Baggies created several chances in the first half with Hegazi headeing Brunt corner over before Edwards twice went close.

And they opened the scoring just after the interval with Robson-Kanu producing a neat finish after being teed up by Edwards.

Tom Allan equalised for Newcastle from the penalty spot after Jack Fitzwater was deemed to have fouled Jack Young.

But Albion went on to win the clash thanks to another goal from Robson-Kanu.
