Slaven Bilic calls on West Brom to provide complete performances
Slaven Bilic has called for Albion to start producing more complete performances after they again came from behind to earn a draw at Fulham.
Incredibly, the Baggies have now conceded first but gone on to get a result in six of their seven Championship matches following the 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.
After dominating the first-half, Fulham took the lead shortly after the interval through a fortuitous Anthony Knockaert strike.
But Bilic responded by making a raft of changes with Kyle Edwards, Filip Krovinovic and Hal Robson-Kanu all introduced.
From that point, they carried a much greater threat with Semi Ajayi pulling the level from a corner.
And they could have won it at the death when, following another corner, Darnell Furlong glanced a header wide.
"I expected Fulham to start (quickly)," Bilic said.
"They’re a good team, they didn’t win their last two home games.
"After they scored their goal, it was like a totally different mind-set.
"We are pleased in one way - it showed our quality, it showed the character and resilience.
"I want us to be like that constantly.
"We’ve had to come here, we got a point, we deserved a point.
"We were the ones who finished stronger. It’s good for us."
As well as his substitutions, Bilic made another crucial tweak in the first-half.
In the opening 20 minutes, Fulham's Harrison Reed was dictating play while Tom Cairney kept getting in-behind Albion's defence with well-timed runs from deep.
But Bilic asked Matheus Pereira to sit on Reed while Romaine Sawyers tried to stick on Cairney.
And West Brom got a stronger foothold on the game from that point.
"Fulham are a good team - sometimes we were trying to press them too high," the Croatian continued.
“When you press them too high...if Jake went up to Harrison Reed, the other Reid or Cairney would push up. That was happening to us.
“We switched. They are pressing, we know that, but we wanted Pereira to be on Harrison Reed. Then you have Jake and Romaine on 10 (Cairney) and 14 (Bobby Reid).
“Then they can do it, but they have to do something special to do it.
"At the beginning, we were trying to chase them too high, and individually - which is what they want."
Bilic's call to bring on Hal Robson-Kanu ahead of Kenneth Zohore in the second-half surprised supporters.
But the Welshman made a big impact in the number 10 role.
“Kenneth came on a few times for us and did really good," the head coach added.
"I don’t know why but I felt that this is the game for Hal.
“Hal’s a good player. He’s got the touch between the lines, he’s swimming and roaming between the lines. He can turn.
"That’s Fulham’s strength, but they don’t have an old fashioned holding midfielder that’ll sit there and mark a number 10 - especially when that number 10 is a striker, like Hal.
“For defenders, when you’re winning, it’s not comfortable to go and mark that player. For Hal, he’s perfect for that. He’s got that touch, he knows where he is.
“He can play the balls to the wingers, and we are good there, or to Charlie.
“That’s why I opted for Hal, and it proved a good decision.”
