The 27-year-old midfielder will wear the number 19 shirt after signing a three-year deal with West Brom with the option of a further 12 months.

The club announced the news this morning as they unveiled a striking violet third kit for the 2019/20 season.

Although the fee is officially undisclosed, the Baggies are understood to have paid Brentford £2.9million to bring Sawyers back to the club he left six years ago.

And the Albion academy graduate, who spent three years at Walsall before joining ex-Saddlers manager Dean Smith at Brentford in 2016, says he's returning to the West Midlands as a maturer man.

“It’s been a long time coming and feel like I have unfinished business,” Sawyers said.

“This is the first team that I have always wanted to play for and I’m delighted I’m now going to get that chance.

“I left the club when I was just a boy with a lot of potential. But I am coming back as a man who has matured as a player.

"It looks to me that we are assembling a strong group of players and I hope to add to that.

"The aim is promotion - that’s what we all want especially after just missing out last season.”

Sawyers has become Albion's fifth signing of the summer, following Filip Krovinovic, Kenneth Zohore, Darnell Furlong and Semi Ajayi.

Speaking after last night's 0-0 draw against Premier League Bournemouth, head coach Slaven Bilic said Sawyers had been targeted "as a player who will raise the quality in our midfield."

“He brings everybody into the game," Bilic added.

"I’m really happy the way our midfield played tonight, but he’s just going to add the quality, and another number of course,"

The Birmingham-born playmaker joined his new teammates at The Hawthorns late on Friday after Albion's final pre-season friendly ended in a stalemate.

The season proper starts away at Nottingham Forest for a televised 5.30pm kick-off next Saturday.
