Matt Phillips proud to be a West Brom player after gutsy second leg
Matt Phillips says he is proud to be an Albion player after last night’s gutsy second leg performance against rivals Aston Villa.
Phillips was one of many gutted Albion players who vented their feelings on social media after the game which ended 1-0 to the Baggies but with Villa progressing to Wembley on penalties.
Loanees Dwight Gayle and Mason Holgate also thanked Albion fans for their support over the course of the season, with the Everton defender saying he had made ‘friends for life’.
Phillips said: “Not the result we all wanted but none the less I’m proud to be part of that team and club!”
Gayle said: “Gutted to finish the season like that as the team and fans were immense last night.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone involved at WBA for your support over the season. It’s been a pleasure.”
Holgate said: “Heartbroken about how it ended last night but so proud of the boys and the performance we put in.
“I just want to say a massive thank you to the fans, staff, and the boys at WBA. I’ve honestly loved every moment since joining in January and made friends and brothers for life.”
Coach Steven Reid, who was brought in to help caretaker boss Jimmy Shan, said: “Has been an absolute pleasure to be back at WBA over the last month.
“Atmosphere was incredible last night but a horrible way to go out. Big thanks Jimmy Shan for the call. Really enjoyed working alongside a great staff and players.”
