Jokanovic won promotion out of the Championship with both Fulham and Watford, and is available after being let go by the Cottagers in November.

Technical director Luke Dowling is leading the search and has worked previously with Jokanovic at Watford.

The 50-year-old is currently the primary candidate and has been approached about the vacant role.

David Wagner, who recently left Huddersfield Town, is also due to be approached.

Although it’s believed he does not wish to get back into football until the summer, Albion are keen to clarify that and plan to speak to him.

The Baggies have also been notified over the weekend of several other candidates who are interested in the job, and will explore them too at the start of this week.

Former Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City boss Carlos Carvalhal is rumoured to be open to an approach, as is Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes.

However, Albion are likely to appoint a manager without a club in order to make the process as swift as possible.

That process will be led by Dowling, who will report back to chief executive Mark Jenkins, who is currently in China with owner Guochuan Lai.

Albion are keen to make a swift appointment in order to have the maximum impact on their remaining 10 games of the season after falling nine points behind the automatic promotion spots.

They hope to reveal their new boss this week, ideally in time for Wednesday’s home game with Swansea but more likely in time for Saturday’s trip to Brentford.

Moore was taken to a private room in The Hawthorns roughly an hour after the final whistle of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with bottom club Ipswich Town and told he was no longer head coach.

However, he still posed for photos with supporters as he left the ground before the decision was announced.

After four wins in 12 league games and just two in their last dozen at The Hawthorns, the board’s confidence in his ability to take Albion up had waned.

The coaching staff and playing staff were then informed in the dressing room or by phone if they had already left the ground.

Moore’s assistants Graeme Jones and Wayne Jacobs have also left the club with immediate effect.

First team coach James Shan has been placed in temporary charge until a new head coach is appointed.

Moore’s sacking came as a shock to the wider footballing community because he leaves Albion in fourth place and as the second highest scorers in the division.
