West Brom boss Darren Moore impressed by 'student of the game' Sam Field
Boss Darren Moore has praised ‘student of the game’ Sam Field following the youngsters impressive performance against QPR.
The Baggies, who beat Villa in the derby on Saturday, made it back-to-back wins in the Championship by overcoming Steve McLaren’s side on Tuesday.
Moore opted for a 4-3-3 formation at Loftus Road with Field deployed in a holding midfield role, replacing the experienced and influential Gareth Barry.
The victory cemented Albion’s position in the top six and also moved them to within a point of the automatic promotion places in the Championship.
And Moore felt Field – who is still only 20 years old – showed great maturity protecting his back four in the capital.
“Sam put in a solid performance,” Moore said.
“He uses the ball very well, he’s an intelligent player.
“He’s a real student of the game.
“For him to play in that position was excellent. He mopped up in front and stopped balls going into (Matt) Smith and when he had the ball at his feet he got us moving up the pitch.
“It was a mature performance from Sam and he’s another young player starting to grow in stature and he’ll continue to develop, like Rekeem (Harper) and young Kyle Edwards.
“When they step in they understand the responsibility.
