Ex-West Brom academy star Adil Nabi hopes Greek move kick-starts career
Former Albion academy striker Adil Nabi hopes his move to Greece can provide a platform for a return to English football.
The 24-year-old signed for OFI Crete last month, reuniting with fellow ex-Baggie Georgios Samaras, who is director of football at the Greek club.
Nabi played more than 70 times for Albion’s under-21 team and was the club’s Young Player of the Year in 2014/15, but he never played for the senior side.
Now, the Aston-born striker is hoping his time in Greece can kick-start his career.
"I have big targets and ambitions and I know I can fulfil goals in the future,” Nabi told the BBC.
“People still speak about not playing for West Brom but hopefully one day I can get a move back to England and get that opportunity on merit. My time in Greece can help me do that."
Nabi had a loan spell at Indian Super League side Delhi Dynamos while he was at Albion before he joined Peterborough United in League One.
He struggled to break into the Posh side and spent some time on loan at Nuneaton Town in the National League before joining Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.
In January, he moved to Greece to join promoted side OFI Crete.
"The move to Greece has been crazy," Nabi said. "People are spotting me in the streets and that was only after one game, it is a nice feeling.
"That is what I want and hopefully that carries on."
Albion also had Nabi’s younger brothers Samir and Rahis on their books, but Samir was released in 2016 and Rahis was released in 2017.
Elsewhere, Baggies loanee Allan Nyom was shown a straight red card for Leganes in their victory over Rayo Vallocano.
Nyom is out of contract in the summer of 2020.
