West Brom focus on the attack after cooling Tyrone Mings interest

Albion have entered the final 48 hours of the transfer window focused solely on strengthening in attack after cooling their interest in Tyrone Mings.

The Bournemouth centre-back had been a target for the Baggies, who held talks with the Premier League club over a possible loan switch.

But the relatively high cost of the deal, coupled with the form of Manchester City loanee Tosin Adarabioyo, have led to a rethink.

The Cherries were keen to secure a sizeable loan fee for Mings, while also offloading the 25-year-old’s wages for the rest of the campaign.

Adarabioyo’s excellent performance in Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Brighton is thought to have further helped convince boss Darren Moore he does not require any additional defensive reinforcements for the promotion run-in.

Instead, the Baggies most glaring need remains in the final third, where they have lost both Harvey Barnes and Bakary Sako this month.

Barnes was recalled by Leicester City after an excellent loan spell which saw him net nine goals, while Sako completed a move back to former club Crystal Palace last month.

Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy remains a prime target, though Albion’s chances of securing a loan deal depend on the north-east club signing a replacement first.

Fulham bad boy Aboubakar Kamara is among a number of alternatives, with the Baggies prepared to look elsewhere if an agreement for Murphy cannot be reached soon.

Kamara is currently suspended by the Premier League club following an incident at their training ground last week.

The 23-year-old was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm and criminal damage following a fight.

Kamara scored seven goals in the Championship last season and his current circumstances might make the deal financially attractive.

Fulham boss Claudio Ranieri said: “I don’t know what happened here, now there is a club investigation and I am waiting.

“But if he comes back, for me there is no problem, for the team there is no problem.

“In this moment he is suspended from the club. I don’t know what happened here and I have to wait.”
