The 21-year-old joined the Baggies 18 months ago for £15m, but has struggled to get into the side since completing his move from RB Leipzig.

He now has to chance to kick-start his career in Scotland with Brendan Rodgers' side – who currently sit top of the Scottish Premier League table.

Albion have agreed the temporary switch, subject to a medical, but there is no option to buy Burke at the conclusion of the loan deal.

The Baggies still believe Burke has a long-term future at The Hawthorns, with technical director Luke Dowling saying the loan move was in the best interest of both club and player.

"The opportunity to join a club of Celtic’s stature on loan was felt by everyone to be the best pathway to help develop his career." said Dowling.

“Oli liked what Celtic had to offer and he has obviously got the opportunity to play on a great stage which should be of benefit to him.

“I would stress that there is no ‘option to buy’ clause at the end of the loan and he will be back with us at the end of the season.

"We will be keeping a close eye on his progress and still believe that in Oli we have a talented player who we are anxious to develop and progress.”

Meanwhile, centre-back Dara O'Shea has extended his loan spell at League Two Exeter City until the end of the season.
