Darren Moore: West Brom can build on draw with Blackburn

Darren Moore admits his Albion team should have beaten Blackburn Rovers today - but is happy to stop the rot with a point that he can build on.

Albion drew 1-1 with Tony Mowbray's visitors after back-to-back defeats, although fortune was very much against the promoted side.

Not only did they lose captain Charlie Mulgrew and his centre-back partner Jack Rodwell to injury, but they also lost goalkeeper David Raya to a nasty nose injury after making all three substitutes.

Despite playing more than 15 minutes against 10 men with an outfield player in goal, Albion couldn't find a winner after Harrison Reed's curler had cancelled out Craig Dawson's header.

"Based on the chances we had and the way the game went we should have won the game but it's something to build on," said Moore. "It's been a tough week so I'm pleased to come out of the game with a point.

"We wanted to win the game make no mistake. Blackburn were bitty, plucky, and determined today.

"But from our point of view, it's a point and we get a rare week to really work with the team and build on top of that on some of the things that have eluded us recently."

Albion struggled to test Richard Smallwood in goal after the midfielder donned the gloves, although substitute Hal Robson-Kanu did have a header cleared off the line.

"We had some chances but they had bodies in front of goal, sheer numbers, so credit to them," said Moore. "We had three or four chances but they got the blocks in.

"We tried to go and win the game but it eluded us really. Our thoughts go with David who sustained a terrible injury to his nose. We'll find out later how he's getting on.

"I said to the boys downstairs, even though we wanted to win the game, we came out with a point and it allows us to build on something for the week and we'll move on to the next game on Saturday."

Albion took the lead in the 40th minute when Dawson bundled the ball in at the far post from a Matt Phillips corner.

But Rovers improved after the break and in the 71st minute, they equalised through a sumptuous curling effort from Southampton loanee Harrison Reed.

"It was a spectacular goal, it was some goal from the boy," said Moore. "If teams are going to score against us, let it be a goal like that because it was an incredible finish.

"He struck it very well, when you see goals whistle in like that you give him praise.

"Other than that they didn't really have many chances, but he's pulled out a sublime finish from 25 yards and it's gone in the back of the net.

"We had some chances to go and win the game but they were determined, plucky and got bodies in the way."
