Moore oversaw a five-match unbeaten run for the Baggies in September, which saw them end the month top of the table.

His entertaining side scored 12 goals along the way – and Gayle, who was signed on a season-long loan from Newcastle in the summer while Salomon Rondon went the other way, got five of them.

He chipped in with a delightful double against Stoke, a calm finish against Bristol City, a predatory strike against Millwall and an excellent free-kick at Preston.

Moore is up against Wigan chief Paul Cook, Norwich boss Daniel Farke and Sheffield United gaffer Chris Wilder for the manager of the month gong.

The others up for the player of the month award are Brentford’s Neal Maupay, Norwich’s Teemu Pukki and Blackburn’s Bradley Dack.

Meanwhile, former Wolves boss Kenny Jackett is up for League One manager of the month after his Portsmouth charges went unbeaten.

Former Albion, Wolves and Walsall forward Don Goodman is on the judging panel.

All winners will be announced tomorrow.
