The 20-year-old winger yesterday became Baggies boss Darren Moore’s fourth signing of the transfer window when he sealed a season-long loan deal.

Barnes, who made his debut in Albion’s 3-2 win at Barnsley last night, is eager to impress and play his part as the club aim for a successful campaign in the Championship.

“The club speaks for itself. I know they have big ambition,” he said. “The way the gaffer has put things across, the way he wants to play, I think this is the right place for me.

“The first thing, in terms of aims, is the team. With the club this is and the aspirations they have got, I think it can be a great season.

“I want to achieve the same as everyone else at the club. We are all hoping for promotion.

“On a personal note I want to hit my targets for goals and assists and playing in a lot of games. Game time is important me.”

Highly-rated Barnes has experience of the second tier having spent the first half of last season on loan at Barnsley, where he scored five goals in just 23 appearances.

He made his Premier League debut for the Foxes in April, with his switch to Albion coinciding with him signing a new, four-year deal at the King Power Stadium.

“It was nice to get out there on the pitch last night,” he said. “It helps. The last few days have been all about getting the last few details sorted. Having a game so quickly probably helps me settle in. It is the best way to learn. It was an interesting game.”

Goals from Hal Robson-Kanu and James Morrison and a Dimitri Cavare own goal saw the Baggies overturn a two-goal deficit to win at Oakwell.

Moore remains hopeful of adding another new player to his squad in the coming days, with talks ongoing with Sheffield United over goalkeeper Simon Moore.
