West Brom out-of-contract quartet set to learn their fate

Albion’s out-of-contract stars are poised to learn their fate in the coming days as the club’s summer plans move up a gear.

Boss Darren Moore will tell James Morrison, Gareth McAuley, Claudio Yacob and Boaz Myhill where they stand before the Baggies jet off to Portugal on a pre-season training camp next Tuesday.

All four players are set to become free agents at the end of the month and resolving their futures is the first item on the agenda as the club prepare for what promises to be a busy few weeks.

Moore has previously kept his cards close to his chest, though it is understood the head coach is keen to offer fresh terms to Morrison - the club’s longest-serving current player – if the midfielder can prove his fitness.

Doubt also remains over the future of Gareth Barry. The 37-year-old midfielder, who joined from Everton last summer, triggered an additional year after making more than 25 appearances but it is unclear whether he will stay.

Barry became the Premier League’s all-time appearance holder last term but his reputation with supporters took a serious hit after he was named as one of four players who allegedly stole a taxi in Barcelona.

Jonny Evans has already left for Leicester in a £3.5million deal and a number of other players could depart including striker Salomon Rondon, who has a £16.5million release clause.

Newcastle are thought to hold an interest in the Venezuela international though it has been reported the overall financial package, including agents’ fees, may prove too much for the Premier League club.

Albion are chasing Bristol City striker Bobby Reid but are yet to make a formal bid, while Brentford midfielder Ryan Woods is another target.

Yet reports linking the Baggies with former Sunderland winger Jermain Lens, who is currently on the books of Turkish club Besiktas, are thought to be wide of the mark.
