Former West Brom man Graham Potter to join Swansea
Ex-Albion man Graham Potter is set to become Swansea’s sixth manager in four years after a compensation package for his services was finalised with Swedish club Ostersund.
Englishman Potter has been in charge of Ostersund since December 2010, but the 43-year-old will complete a move to Wales early next week.
“Swansea City can confirm a compensation package has been finalised with Ostersund for the services of Graham Potter,” said a statement on the Swans’ official website.
“The club has also agreed personal terms with Potter along with his assistant Billy Reid and recruitment analyst Kyle Macauley, who are set to join him at the Liberty.”
Swansea’s seven-season stay in the Premier League came to an end last month.
The Welsh club decided not to take up the option of extending Carlos Carvalhal’s short-term contract after the Portuguese failed to save them from dropping into the Championship.
Paul Clement, Bob Bradley, Francesco Guidolin and Garry Monk have also been in the Swansea hot-seat since 2014.
Potter, who played for Albion, Blues and Stoke, has been of interest to several English clubs due to his success at Ostersund.
He led them from the fourth to the top tier and Ostersund won the Swedish Cup in 2017. That saw Ostersund qualify for the Europa League last season, where they reached the last 32 of the competition.
Potter oversaw a 2-1 victory at Arsenal, but they bowed out of the competition 4-2 on aggregate.
He played for the Baggies between 1997 and 2000, signing from Southampton for £300,000.
He made 47 appearances for the Baggies, while also spending time on loan at Northampton and Reading, before joining York City on a free transfer.
