Tahvon Campbell signs for Forest Green Rovers after being released by West Brom
Former Albion striker Tahvon Campbell has signed for Forest Green Rovers after being released by the Baggies.
The 21-year-old has returned to the League Two outfit after spending the second half of last season on loan at Rovers.
Campbell scored two goals from playing 14 appearances during his time in League Two, three of which were starts.
He was one of four Albion youngsters released by the club earlier this week, ending his 12-year association with the Baggies.
“My time at WBA has come to an end,” he tweeted. “I would like to thank all the staff, past and present, who I’ve worked with during my time at the club.
“Made great memories and friends during my 12 years. Onto new beginnings!”
Speaking to Forest Green’s official media channel, he said: “It wasn’t a hard decision for me to rejoin.
“Being here before it was quite easy knowing the whole background of the club and all the staff and the players.
“I really enjoyed it, staying in the league was a great feeling. Hopefully next season we can push for bigger things.”
Forest Green boss Mark Cooper told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: “It's good for us because it's probably last-chance-saloon for Tav.
"He had loans that did not work out. He felt at home [with us] and we've given him an opportunity to kick on and save his league career. I'm sure he will.
"We've given him a deal where he has got to really prove himself. He's got to come back really fit and be a really good professional.
"Tav showed us on numerous occasions - off the bench - that he was a real handful and has got something about him."
One Albion youngster who was retained this week was 17-year-old Nathan Ferguson, who appeared on the first-team bench under Alan Pardew last season.
The young defender has been called up to England’s Under-18s for the Panda Cup, a four-team tournament in China that also includes Hungary and Uruguay.
Ferguson completed 90 minutes in the final game of the competition, a 1-0 win over Hungary that proved to be England’s only win.
“I’ve heard nothing but positive reports,” said academy boss Mark Harrison.
“The feedback from the England staff was very complimentary and not just about Nathan’s performance level but also how he conducted himself and contributed off the pitch.
“These are very positive signals to receive about our young players.”
