Shan, who is normally under-23s coach, has been helping the caretaker boss with first-team affairs during the past six weeks.

The long-serving coach has been at the Baggies for 12 years, and has risen through the ranks of the academy to take charge of the Premier League 2 team.

After yesterday's 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on the final day of the season confirmed Albion were going down bottom of the table, he thanked the 'amazing' fans for their support.

"Absolutely gutted we are relegated," he tweeted. "The worst feeling Tuesday evening.

"Yesterday was an emotional day. What a pleasure it has been watching @DarrenMooro grow - what HE has done is incredible, the support from @WBA fans has been amazing. Thank you #wetogetherstronger."

Moore picked up more points from his six games in charge than either Tony Pulis or Alan Pardew managed from 10 games and 18 games respectively.

He is in the running for the Albion job, and the club are expected to make their appointment later this week.

Both Shan and goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler are expected to stay at the club.

He is not the only member of the backroom staff who has hailed Moore's impact now the season has ended.

Kit manager Aidan Smyth also tweeted: "Huge and sincere tks to @DarrenMooro and his coaching staff for restoring pride and optimism to a fantastic club.

"We know the hard work starts now. Lets be positive and get out of the championship at first time of asking. As Mooro says it’s WE! #WeAreAlbion"
