Technical director Nick Hammond has become the latest casualty of Albion’s nightmare season after it was confirmed he will be leaving the club.

Hammond’s exit is the precursor to a major restructure at The Hawthorns as the Baggies prepare for life in the Championship next season.

The 50-year-old leaves after less than two years in the role. His position at the club has been under scrutiny after he played a key role in the disastrous appointment of Alan Pardew as head coach earlier this season.

Pardew, who replaced Tony Pulis in The Hawthorns hotseat, won only one league game in four months in charge of the Baggies and the club now face relegation from the Premier League.

Hammond has also paid the price for his involvement in Albion's ill-advised spending splurge last summer, when more than £40million was splashed out on players who have failed to deliver.

His departure follows February’s sacking of chief executive Martin Goodman and chairman John Williams by owner Guochuan Lai.

Mark Jenkins, who replaced Goodman as chief executive, said: "We would like to place on record our gratitude for Nick's efforts during his two years in the role and wish him every success for his future."

Hammond said: "West Bromwich Albion are a great football club which I was honoured to be a part of, great people, great supporters. I wish them every success going forward as I move on to future projects."
