West Brom 1 Burnley 2 - Player ratings

Albion lost their ninth consecutive game on Saturday when Burnley beat them 2-1 at The Hawthorns. Here, we rate the players.

Published
Salomon Rondon. (AMA)

Ben Foster

Nothing he could have done about Barnes’s volley, but couldn’t react to Wood’s shot deflecting onto his chest. Made a couple of routine saves. 5/10

Craig Dawson

Defended resolutely but gave away the ball a couple of times. Crossing was a bit wayward. 5/10

Jonny Evans

May have set up Rondon’s goal but his defending at the back was atrocious. Gifted a chance to Nkoudou in the first half and dived in on Wood in the lead up to the second goal. One who looks like summer can’t come quick enough for. 4/10

Ahmed Hegazi

Caught out of position for Wood’s goal and his passing was wayward. Apart from a cameo on the left wing, a performance to forget. 5/10

Kieran Gibbs

The ball unkindly ricocheted off him in the build-up to Burnley’s first goal, but he was dragged off at half-time because Pardew wanted ‘sound defenders’ on the pitch. Went on one little mazy run. 5/10

Jake Livermore

Was forced to hare around in the first half when Brunt and Yacob were static, but showed some ncie touches on the ball and kept it moving. One of the few players who fought throughout, and even got a little angry, which was reassuring. Hardly set the world alight, but didn’t do much wrong and looked up for it. 6/10

Claudio Yacob

Made a match-high six tackles and after a static first-half, grew into the game in the second period. Put everything in, one of Albion’s better performers. 6/10

Chris Brunt

Looked better out wide than in the middle and swung in a few dangerous deliveries in the second half, although most were gobbled up by Burnley’s back-line. 5/10

Allan Nyom

His battle with Nkoudou was intriguing but he was guilty of playing the ball backwards too much, particularly in the first half. 5/10

Jay Rodriguez

One of few players who could hold his head up high after the first half but couldn’t quite latch on to any of the crosses. 5/10

Salomon Rondon

Forced Pope into a decent low save with a glancing header before getting Albion’s goal with a smart take and finish. 6/10

Substitutes

Matt Phillips (For Gibbs 45)

His addition on the right wing added some much-needed threat of getting in behind but he struggled to make it count when he did. 5/10

Oliver Burke (For Rodriguez 76)

Won a free-kick after bursting past his man but did little else. 5/10

Unused: Myhill, McAuley, Gabr, Krychowiak, McClean.
