Salomon Rondon: West Brom still believe
Salomon Rondon insists Albion’s players still believe they can avoid the drop this season.
The Baggies travel to Vicarage Road to take on Watford tomorrow sitting bottom of the Premier League and seven points from safety.
Alan’s Pardew’s side saw their chances of survival dealt a major blow last weekend when they fell to defeat against fellow strugglers Huddersfield.
Earlier this year, Rondon posted a message on social media in his first language of Spanish which translates to ‘no obstacle is impossible to overcome’. And he says it’s that attitude the players must take into the final 10 games of the season. “I still believe that – no obstacle is impossible to overcome,” the striker said. “If mathematically we have a chance to stay up, then we have to believe. But the only way we are going to stay in the Premier League is by working hard and keeping going. Obviously, it’s important what happened against Huddersfield.
“Now the most important thing for us is the Watford game. We need to keep focused on the game and keep believing in the team.”
Albion’s fans reacted angrily to the loss against Huddersfield last weekend. But Rondon said he fully understands their frustration.
“The supporters are good,” he continued. “I am a fan and I can understand how they feel watching their team lose such an important match at home. We need the supporters in all the games coming up. The most important thing is the club and to stay up, so we need everybody.”
Rondon admitted he has found the team’s struggles this season tough.
“It’s a very difficult time,” he said.
“It’s difficult for me, we are bottom of the table. We have conceded too many goals. We haven’t scored enough.
“My family have told me to keep working, that is the only way we are going to get out of this.”
Albion will take on a Watford side who have beaten Chelsea and Everton in their last two home matches.
The Hornets haven’t lost at Vicarage Road in 2018. But while the Baggies head to Hertfordshire looking for a win, Rondon feels a draw wouldn’t be disastrous.
“We need to go to Watford to win,” he said. “We have 10 games left. It’s really important we get wins at home. And away from home we have to get something.
“If we go away from home and get three points that is massive for us. But if we get a point, I think that’s massive as well.”
