The 28-year-old Liverpool forward strengthen's Alan Pardew’s attacking options for the final 14 matches of the Premier League campaign.

Albion have paid Liverpool a loan fee of £1.5million in order to cover his wages for the remainder of the season.

However, there is not an option to buy Sturridge included in the deal.

Sturridge is eligible to play for Albion in the FA Cup, having not featured for the Reds in this year’s competition.

Born in Birmingham, he chose a move to The Hawthorns ahead of offers from Newcastle United, Inter Milan, and Sevilla.

The 28-year-old wants first-team football ahead of this summer's World Cup in Russia, but will have to compete with in-form strikers Salomon Rondon and Jay Rodriguez.

Pardew has been searching for a goalscorer this window because the Baggies have only netted 19 times in 24 league games so far this season.

Sturridge has pedigree in the Premier League, having netted 74 goals in 114 top-flight starts.

“I hope our fans can understand that we are fighting to stay in the Premier League, not just on the pitch but in the market place as well,” said Pardew.

“This is a big coup for us and I speak for my staff and my players and say ‘thank you’ to Daniel for agreeing to assist us in League and Cup.

“He has fantastic talent and will strengthen our ambitions on both fronts.”

Sturridge says joining the Baggies and returning to his home city felt like a natural fit.

“I’ve got friends here I’ve played with before, the manager spoke very well, the challenge with the team and the style of play," he said. "I just felt this was the right fit for me.”

He is eligible for Wednesday's trip to Manchester City.
