January Transfer deals: West Brom profit from previous windows
With West Brom fans still awaiting the start of their January Transfer Window business, it has emerged that Albion have actually made a profit over the period in the past 10 years.
New figures from UK job board CV-Library have found that The Baggies have actually recorded a £4m profit in the past 10 January windows, behind only Watford, Stoke and Newcastle.
The 'big six' (Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs) are responsible for over half (56%) of all January expenditure across the past ten seasons, with West Brom only contributing 2% over the same time period.
Chelsea have forked out an eye-watering £250m on new recruits since the 2006/2007 season. However, the Blues only have a modest net spend of £6m due to recouping over £240m thanks in part to the sales of the likes of Oscar, Juan Mata and Andre Schurrle.
In comparison, West Brom have spent just over £24m on 18 players, an average of £1.3m per player while they have recouped just over £28m, mostly thanks to the £12m sale of want-away forward Saido Berahino and the £7m sale of Shane Long.
Jake Livermore has proved the Baggies' biggest purchase in January, costing just over £10m last season, followed by Callum McManaman, who cost over £5m and Luke Moore, who joined from neighbouring Aston Villa for over £3m.
22 players have departed the Hawthorns over the last ten January windows, with Berahino and Long make up 70% of all the income the Baggies have received, contributing over £20m out of the total £28m.
West Brom are one of only four Premier League clubs have a positive net spend - Newcastle United substantially lead the way through a profit of over £30million while Watford (£7m) and Swansea (£7m) follow the Toon.
