West Brom wait on FA Cup allocation

Albion are waiting to learn which FA Cup fourth round matches will be televised before making a decision on allocation size for their trip to Liverpool.

Competition rules allowing visiting clubs up to 15 per cent of a stadium’s capacity mean the Baggies could request an allocation of more than 8,000 at Anfield.

But they are first waiting to discover when the tie will be played before making a decision.

The game is tentatively scheduled for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday, January 27, though that would change should either BBC or BT Sport select it for live coverage.

And with Liverpool boasting one of the largest worldwide fanbases, the possibility cannot be ruled out, particularly following a draw with few genuine standout ties.

Yeovil’s tie with Manchester United and the visit of Tottenham to Newport appear certain to be selected but after that the choices are less obvious.

Wolves took 8,300 supporters to Liverpool at the same stage last season, returning to the Midlands with a famous 2-1 win.

Albion have not ruled out taking the largest allocation, though there is also an understanding that trips to Anfield are no longer so attractive as before after eight straight seasons in the Premier League.

It is the first FA Cup meeting between the clubs since April 1968, when the Baggies eventually triumphed 2-1 in a sixth-round second replay at Maine Road.

Few fans will need reminding that, a month later, they were lifting the trophy at Wembley.
