James McClean apologised to West Brom team-mates for turning his back in the wall
James McClean immediately held his hands up in the dressing room after turning his back in the wall against Arsenal.
The Irish international's actions allowed Alexis Sanchez to squeeze a free-kick in off his leg to give the Gunners the lead with seven minutes to go.
The goal has officially gone down as a McClean own goal because Sanchez's free-kick was heading wide.
Alan Pardew's No.2 John Carver suggested hitting the balls at McClean's backside after the game as punishment.
It's not the first time McClean has cost Albion points this season with an individual error, but Pardew says the apology was enough for him and drew a line under it.
"Poor James has come on and joined the wall," said Pardew. "He was encouraged to because I thught we needed another body in there and then he’s turned his back.
"He’ll learn from that lesson because he’s a strong character. And he acknowledged that in the dressing room.
"We’re not going to go over it. I think John Carver did suggest a bit of old school, put him in the goal and let’s all kick the ball at him to teach him a lesson.
“We’ll go away from that. We’re much more intelligent these days John Carver, thank you.
“James changed the game a little bit, he started getting down that left side and we got a little bit of joy out of him.
“We’ll lean on that, rather than him turning his back.”
