Grzegorz Krychowiak expected to see out season-long loan at West Brom from Paris Saint-Germain

Grzegorz Krychowiak is expected to see out his season-long loan at Albion after convincing new boss Alan Pardew he can cut the mustard.

Pardew was disappointed with the Paris Saint-Germain star's fitness levels when he arrived at the Baggies, and left him out of his first two teams.

Uncertainty clouded the club's top earner, who is being paid £108,000 a week by Albion, because Pardew needs to free up wages in order to make additions in January.

But Krychowiak impressed in a battling goalless draw at Anfield on Wednesday, where he made his first start since Tony Pulis was sacked, and he is now expected to stay for the duration of his loan.

"I thought he was very good," said Pardew. "We felt he needed a bit of work if I'm honest when we come here. We worked him quite hard in the background and thought Anfield might be a place that he would do well. He had some moments where he showed his international class I thought."

If Krychowiak wasn't playing, then PSG could recall him and send him out on loan to another club in order to get him minutes, but his inconsistent start to the season means it would be difficult to find another club willing to pick up all of his large wage packet.

He would also be keen to move on in a World Cup year, but as long as he's getting minutes for the Baggies, both he and the French club are happy. The Polish midfielder is not the only player who has responded well to training.

"Since we've come in, myself and John (Carver), we've had a great reaction from the players," said Pardew. "The Swansea game (a 1-0 defeat) really set us back because we didn't see that on the training ground.

"Sometimes as coaches you can sense the team isn't in a great place, we thought we were in a great place but it didn't come out in the game. At Liverpool, it did. And that's a big boost for the group because you gain confidence from that."

Pardew was particularly pleased with the point because it was won with key players injured, and he's hoping to have two of those back available for this Sunday's clash with Manchester United at The Hawthorns.

“This West Brom side needs to be at full strength," he admitted. "We’ve got Brunty looking good and (Nacer) Chadli and (Gareth) Barry are closing in on the weekend.

"They're not far away. Maybe too soon for Manchester United on Sunday but we'll see. Suddenly our quality level is going up. That performance (against Liverpool) made me feel much better.

"Manchester United is a game I’m licking my lips about and the players are too. These are great games. You’ve got to perform at your best – I want to as well but unfortunately I have to stay on the sidelines."
