Rajiv Van La Parra's gorgeous strike on the stroke of half-time gave the hosts a deserved lead before Christopher Schindler was sent off for David Wagner's team just before the hour mark.

But despite having an extra man, Albion were unable to break down Huddersfield and the 2,340 unhappy Baggies in the sold-out away end bombarded their head coach from the stands.

Chants of 'You're getting sacked in the morning', 'Tony Pulis, get out of our club', and 'Tony Pulis, your football is s**t' came out of the seething away end during the second half and at the final whistle a large group of fans came down to the pitchside to make their feelings felt, although their chants were drowned out by the exuberant Huddersfield celebrations.

The board had not put Pulis's job on the line for this game, and beforehand, had intended to give the head coach until Christmas to turn form around.

But such a poor defeat to a newly-promoted side who were down to ten men for the last third of the game will no doubt heap further pressure on him.

Albion are now winless in their last 10 games in all competitions and only have two victories from their last 20 Premier League games.

They have their lowest points tally at this stage of a Premier League season since 2005/06, when they were relegated.

Last season, it was an a 2-1 win away at Leicester on the 11th weekend that kick-started Albion's camapign, but there was to be no such morale-boosting win this time around.

The Baggies were second-best to their hosts for much of the game, and there was too much space between the front two and the rest of the team.

Albion only woke up after Pulis's triple substitution on the hour mark, but Huddersfield's defences stood firm.

Pulis only made one change to the line-up that lost 3-2 to Manchester City last weekend, bringing Hal Robson-Kanu in up front for Salomon Rondon, who had a slight strain.

It meant the Baggies kept the 5-3-2 system that was used against City last weekend.

It was an even start to proceedings but Albion had the first real chance of the game, when Ahmed Hegazi knocked a Gareth Barry corner back into the danger zone.

The ball fell to Grzegorz Krychowiak but he mis-kicked his shot from a good central position.

Huddersfield grew into the game though, and started to pass the ball about

They were trying to get in behind Albion down the channels whenever Kieran Gibbs and Allan Nyom pushed up from wing-back.

Fifteen minutes in they thought they had a penalty when Rajiv Van La Parra went down under a Gibbs challenge.

It didn't look like Gibbs got the ball, but the former Wolves man went down a tad theatrically and referee Roger East waved away the appeals.

Robson-Kanu was Albion's brightest spark in the opening exchanges, and the secondary striker slipped Jay Rodriguez through shortly after that, but last week's goalscorer saw his shot blocked by Schindler.

There was quite a tasty duel brewing between the German cenbtre-back and Albion's Wales international, and shortly after Schindler was booked for pushing Robson-Kanu off the pitch when he was chasing a ball sent down the channel.

So the home crowd were incensed when Albion's striker escaped a booking shortly after when he stepped on Tom Ince's trailing boot near the half way line.

Ahmed Hegazi wasn't so lucky on the half-hour mark though, when he was shown yellow for bodychecking Van La Parra on the edge of the area.

Huddersfield won a corner from the resulting free-kick. and that fell to Ince kindly on the penalty spot, but the Terriers midfielder blasted his shot over under pressure from Gibbs.

The former Derby man then had a shot on target before Rodriguez went straight up the other end and drew Jonas Lossl into his first save of the game but it was the hosts who looked more dangerous.

And they made their pressure count on the stroke of half-time with a gorgeous goal from the best player of the half.

Huddersfield burst forward with a quick free-kick after Jay Rodriguez gave away a foul in the centre circle, but Van La Parra was still afforded to too much time and space 25 yards out when the former Wolves man was almost dared to shoot by Jake Livermore.

He duly did, curling in a stunning shot up and over the defence and into the top right corner, leaving Foster statuesque.

The second half started with chants of 'You're getting sacked in the morning' and 'We want Pulis out' from the away end.

But the Baggies boss was handed a lifeline just before the hour mark when Schindler was shown a second yellow card after scything down Ahmed Hegazi in the centre-circle in an effort to stop the Egyptian carrying the ball any further.

Pulis immediately made a triple substitution in a desperate attempt to salvage something from the game, sending James McClean, Salomon Rondon and Matt Phillips onto the pitch.

Wagner responded with two subs of his own that shored things up at the back.

Livermore had a shot blocked, and Rondon flashed a header inches wide of Lossl's post from a Jonny Evans cross, but for the most part, Albion looked devoid of ideas going forward and struggled to break down the ten men.

They didn't test Jonas Lossl until injury time, when the Huddersfield keeper pulled off two superb fingertip saves.

The first one pushed McClean's header around the post and the second denied Phillips's fierce shot from inside the box.

Wagner has been at Huddersfield for two years tomorrow, and will celebrate his anniversary in comfort.

Tony Pulis has been at the Baggies for nearly three years now, and based on the scenes in the away end today, it seems the majority of the fans think that is long enough.
