West Brom rule Craig Dawson out of Manchester City clash

Albion defender Craig Dawson has been ruled out of Saturday’s game against Manchester City with club medics still to determine the extent of his knee injury.

A scan has confirmed Dawson, forced off late on during the Baggies 1-0 defeat at Southampton last weekend, did not suffer any damage to his cruciate ligament.

But Albion director of performance Mark Gillett is still assessing the 27-year-old in order to determine a precise diagnosis and an idea of how much time he might miss.

Dawson left the pitch during the closing stages of the game and boarded the team bus on crutches.

The Baggies also have concerns over Dawson’s defensive partner Jonny Evans, who also left the game at St Mary’s early with a groin strain.

James Morrison’s participation against City is also in doubt as he continues rehabilitation from an Achilles tendon injury which has kept him sidelined since the international break.

In a boost, Gareth Barry has been passed fit to play against his former club having also come off early against the Saints, while Hal Robson-Kanu and Oliver Burke are expected to be in contention.

Wales international striker Robson-Kanu has missed the last two games with a muscle strain.
