Chairman John Williams opened discussions with the Northern Irishman at the end of last season, and it’s believed the Baggies tabled a £100,000-a-week deal over the summer.

That offer came to ward off advances from several clubs during the transfer window, including Monday night’s opponents Leicester, who had a £23million bid rejected.

But Evans, who still has two years on his current contract, is yet to sign a new deal with the Baggies and Pulis admits it's probably not on the cards in the near future.

Despite that impasse, the head coach insists has no issues with his skipper, or the way he’s conducted himself since the end of the window.

When asked about Evans’s contract offer, he said: “Jonny has two years left and I don’t think anything’s going to happen with Jonny for a while. If they’re talking they’re talking. I haven’t got a problem with Jonny.”

The Foxes had two bids for Evans rejected in the summer as Craig Shakespeare attempted to rejig his back line.

The first one was worth £10m and the second totalled £23m but neither matched Albion’s £30m valuation of their captain.

And Pulis questioned whether Evans would have been willing to leave Albion for Leicester anyway.

“There was a bid they put in and it was left to the club, as it was with Arsenal and Manchester City,” he said. “We got on with it. Would Jonny have gone to Leicester? I don’t know you’d have to speak to Jonny. Did the club have accept it? Obviously not.”

Arsenal and Manchester City were also interested in Evans in the summer, but the former Manchester United player has not let it hang over him.

“The window affects players, it affected him and Chadli,” said Pulis. “But he’s fine now, Jonny’s fine.”

Evans will captain Albion against Leicester and Salomon Rondon is also expected to start after being given an extra two days off in South America.

And the Venezuelan is high on confidence after scoring against Watford last time out.

“We gave him a couple of days’ grace just to see his family,” said Pulis. “That was important for him.

“He needed that goal, he’s got it and he’s done well against Leicester when we’ve played.”
