West Brom blog: The stars of the future
The Baggies academy is arguably one of the best in the country and while we have seen the likes of Sam Field, Jonathan Leko, Tyler Roberts, Rekeem Harper and Kane Wilson involved in the first team.
But which other players from our academy have the potential to follow suit? West Brom blogger Nathan Carr takes a look at four players:
Kyle Edwards - 17
A talented winger who tends to be used on the left cutting inside onto his favoured right foot. His main attributes are his speed, first touch and skill on the ball. He missed the vast majority of the 2015/16 season due to injury but has since recovered well, featuring twice in League Two since signing on loan for Exeter City last month and scoring a beauty against Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Cup.
Kyle Howkins - 21
A tall, imposing centre-back who can play out from the back and sweep up in the air due to his height. He’s been rather unlucky with injuries during loan spells at Mansfield Town and Cambridge United, where he’s currently stationed, but has caught the eye when fit. The fact Tony Pulis took him on the 2016 pre-season tour and he signed a new deal earlier this year keeping him at the Hawthorns until 2019 would suggest he’s very much part of the club’s plans moving forward.
Callum Morton - 17
A pacy centre-forward who has impressed for the Under-18s and Under-23s since arriving from Yeovil Town at the beginning of this year. Tony Pulis has had him training with the seniors and you can understand why – he’s mobile, willing to work the channels and capable of producing a trick or two.
Alex Bradley - 18
An energetic midfielder who signed his first professional contract this summer. The Finnish youth international has grown into Albion’s Premier League 2 side and produced a fantastic long-range finish against Aston Villa in August, rifling his shot into the bottom corner with some help from the post. Perhaps a loan move to a Football League club won’t be too far off.
