West Brom boss Tony Pulis predicts more to come from Grzegorz Krychowiak
Tony Pulis has promised to unleash Grzegorz Krychowiak as an attacking force for Albion once the Poland international is up to speed with the Premier League.
Midfielder Krychowiak, who joined the Baggies on a season-long loan from Paris St Germain last month, was one of the standout performers during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with West Ham at The Hawthorns.
The 27-year-old was making just his second appearance for the club and boss Pulis believes there is plenty more to come from a player still building match fitness.
“I thought Grzegorz was very good on Saturday,” he said. “I spoke to him after the game and he still feels that he is not sharp and he is not as strong as he would like to be.
“That's two games he has played and didn't play any games in pre-season. He is going to be a really good player for us.”
Krychowiak partnered Gareth Barry in central midfield against the Hammers but Pulis expects him to eventually push further up the pitch.
“That is what we want and if you speak to him I think that is what he wants as well. He wants that freedom to get forward,” said the boss.
“He's got everything and he is a strong lad. We are pleased that we have got him, now what we have to do make sure that we look after him and get him to that level of fitness that will help the team. I think he'll be a top player for us.”
Albion failed to score for the first time this season as they were held at home by the Hammers, in a game of few chances.
Pedro Obiang hit the bar with an audacious long range effort during the first half, while Baggies keeper Ben Foster escaped a red card when he clattered into visiting striker Javier Hernandez outside the box.
Hammers defender Jose Fonte accepted referee Paul Tierney was right to show Foster only a yellow card for the infringement.
“I was behind it. In my opinion if his touch had been a bit more central you could argue that it was a red card,” he said.
“But the touch was a little bit too wide so perhaps it wasn’t a a goal scoring opportunity and you could argue that it was the right decision.”
