Done deal - West Brom pull off huge 'coup' to get PSG's Grzegorz Krychowiak on season-long loan
West Brom have confirmed the shock signing of highly-rated Polish international Grzegorz Krychowiak on a season-long loan.
The PSG midfielder joins Albion, subject to international clearance, in a deal that has been described as a huge 'coup' for the Baggies by head coach Tony Pulis.
There is no option to buy included in the loan, which has taken a £10.6million deal for Fenerbahce's Josef de Souza off the table.
Albion are believed to be paying a large portion of Krychowiak's £108,000-a-week salary in order to secure his services for the season.
But it's a deal Pulis, who has been chasing the defensive midfielder for two years, was told would never happen.
"I think it's a coup for the club and I couldn't be more pleased to get the chance to work with Grzegorz," said Pulis.
"He's an excellent player and one who is going to add competition to our midfield. As well as being a top player, he's also a winner - as his record shows. And that's very important too.
"He has won two Europa Leagues and domestic honours and has played for some top clubs, including Sevilla and PSG.
"I first tried to get him two years ago and it didn't work out, and I've been trying to get him every window since.
"I kept being told it wouldn't happen but I am really, really pleased that we have persuaded him to come to us.
"He's strong and technically a very good player. I think our supporters will enjoy watching him play."
Krychowiak flew over to England today to complete his medical ahead of the loan, and he revealed that he turned down several other clubs to join the Baggies.
"I had a lot of offers from Spain and Italy," he said. "But this is a very ambitious club. There's a good atmosphere here."
Chairman John Williams says the midfielder's recruitment was a significant addition to the club's squad.
"This is a fantastic loan agreement for Albion and we are very pleased to have completed the transfer," said John.
"Grzegorz arrives with an impressive reputation that is well-earned and a CV in European football which clearly displays his qualities.
"We are delighted to welcome him and are confident he will make a significant contribution to the first-team group this season."
Krychowiak is the second signing of the day for the Baggies, who earlier confirmed the arrival of Kieran Gibbs from Arsenal in a £7m deal.
