West Brom's Allan Nyom disappointed to miss out on perfect start

Seven points from a possible nine may be a good start in most people’s books – but Allan Nyom admits West Brom are disappointed not to head into the international break with a perfect record.

The Baggies appeared to be heading for their third 1-0 victory in a row in the Premier League when Jay Rodriguez superbly headed in Nyom’s cross against Stoke on Sunday, only for Ahmed Hegazi to allow Peter Crouch in for the equaliser.

Despite conceding their unbeaten start to the campaign is ‘not bad’, Nyom knows they could have matched Manchester United with three wins from three.

“We are a little bit disappointed because I thought we could keep the result, but that is football.,” said the former Watford player.

“Seven points from three games is not bad but we are a bit disappointed because we could have had nine points

“We are going to continue working in every training session to be better.

“It’s a very good foundation. We have to carry on. The next game is going to be tough like every game so we have to try to be ready for that.”

Nyom spent most of last season out of position at left-back, with Craig Dawson taking over the right-back role, but the Cameroonian has reverted to his favoured position so far this campaign with Dawson alongside Hegazi in the middle.

So is he happier back on the right? “Yeah of course, because I am right-footed and I always used to play right-back. It was a good experience to play left-back. I learned a lot of new things so it was a good experience. I’m used to crossing with my right foot so feel more comfortable than with my left foot.”

And that right foot proved its potency when he found the forehead of Rodriguez in the 61st minute.

“The manager tells me to go forward to help the team,” said Nyom. “It’s good for me.”

Tony Pulis is looking to add at least one more face to his squad before the closure of the transfer window on Thursday night.

And Nyom has been impressed with the quality of the additions at The Hawthorns so far this summer.

“They’ve very good players,” he said. “Barry brings a lot of experience, is a quality player and is very good for us. Jay Rodriguez is a very good striker, technically and with his movement.

“The new player (Burke) brings a lot of good things for the team. I played against him three years ago with Watford – he’s a very good player. Very quick, technically he’s good and good movement so I think he can help the team a lot to get points and good results.”
