West Brom contemplating move for FC Barcelona man
West Brom are weighing up a move for Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen.
The Belgium centre-half moved to the Catalan giants in 2014 after ending his five-year Premier League spell with Arsenal, but he has made just 20 appearances in all competitions for the Nou Camp club.
Vermaelen, 31, spent the entirety of last season on loan at Italian side Roma, where he made 11 appearances.
Boss Tony Pulis is keen on adding more quality to his Albion ranks after so far securing just two signings this summer.
The ex-Gunner has been capped 56 times by his national side and was a firm favourite while part of Arsene Wenger's side.
Pulis has already bolstered his Baggies back line this summer, with the loan signing of Egyptian Ahmed Hegazy, who featured in yesterday's defeat at Bristol Rovers.
Middlesbrough's Ben Gibson is Pulis' No.1 target in the position, though Albion have had bids for the 24-year-old Englishman turned down.
