The Baggies have made two summer signings so far in forward Jay Rodriguez and centre-half Ahmed Hegazi.

But with Gareth McAuley and James Morrison out, and James McClean and Chris Brunt limping off in yesterday's 2-1 loss at Bristol Rovers, they appear thin on the ground.

When asked what the biggest challenge has been with recruitment, Pulis said: "The biggest challenge and biggest issue is keeping everyone calm until the season starts. That's the truth of it.

"Everybody wants to get the players in as quick as they can.

"You can bring a bunch of players in then after two or three games of the season, if they are not playing well supporters will blame you.

"I'd rather try and bring players in that will improve us."

Albion are believed to be in the market for a centre-half, and a central midfielder to replace Darren Fletcher who left for Stoke City.

"I think everybody knows we need to bring players in, and we are trying to bring players in," Pulis added.

"We have made some offers that have not been accepted, but we have to be patient.

"Hopefully things will drop for us and we'll get the players we want. We need a few."
